In basic English what it's saying is that the engine compiles the game world from spreadsheet files that reference all the bits and pieces that go ingame pulling the raw data on how to show and texture the models, animations etc from the original files. Why would there be any interest in them in giving an explanation that was complete bull? Well, I'd be interested to know what someone technically literate thought of that. I miss the old days when almost anything and everything could be done to a game and the developers actually supported such endeavours.Īfter reading the link, it also helps if they develop their own stuff rather than using 3rd party software
#Modtools bf2 mod
Ie, the amount of time, money etc they need to put into getting mods going isn't worth it when they can make booster packs or a new game with that time which are much less of a gamble, they know they will get a good return on that where mods, they have no real control if any good mods will be made.Īs such, I doubt there will be much if any mod support for BF3. I very much doubt they will change there minds again on the subject of mods and although I've only skimmed over that post they have linked, I see they are still in the same frame of mind as they where before. Although for BF2 we do have PR which has boosted there profits quite a bit, but they where most likley aiming for a much higher margin than what PR and the rest of the BF2 mods have given them when they put quite a bit of initial investment into mods when making BF2, shame they had to ditch all there support once it was released.

They'll fix it for bf3 i believe.I think they're on the ball enough to realise a significant amount of bf2s appeal was its moddability, so I'd expect tools to come for bf3.ĮA/DICEs business model changed drastically not long after the release of BF2 when they realized BF2 was such a hard game to mod (compared to BF1942, in terms of not just skill required to mod it, but time taken to crate stuff and also the appeal of mods with no raking system for them when competing with vBF2s ranks) it was unlikely they would see anouther "Desert Combat" (which sold many more copies of BF1942 significantly boosting there profits for pretty much no investment, other than crating the game).
